Welcome Back to Term 2
It has been wonderful to welcome students and staff back for the beginning of Term 2. We were fortunate to enjoy some beautiful autumn weather to start the term, which helped create a positive feel around the school. As we now move further into the term, the colder and wetter weather looks set to become more regular, making routines, organisation, and attendance as important as ever.
Students have settled back into routines well, and it has been pleasing to see so many engaging positively in their learning, reconnecting with peers, and making the most of the opportunities on offer across the campus. From classrooms through to the yard and extracurricular activities, there has been a strong sense of energy and enthusiasm across the school community.
Thank you to our families for your ongoing support in helping students return organised, settled, and ready to learn. We are looking forward to another productive and successful term together.
Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming a whopping 251 Grade 5 and 6 students from our local feeder primary schools for our annual Awareness Day at Kurnai College. It was fantastic to see the campus filled with excitement, curiosity, and plenty of energy throughout the day.
Visiting students had the opportunity to take part in a range of engaging activities, explore different learning areas, and experience what secondary school life at Kurnai College is all about. The atmosphere across both the classrooms and yard spaces was incredibly energising, with students enthusiastically engaging in activities and embracing the experience of being part of the Kurnai community for the day.
Our staff thoroughly enjoyed connecting with future students and supporting them throughout the experience, while our Year 10 Peer Support Leaders were exceptional role models. Their leadership, encouragement, and willingness to help created a welcoming environment for all visitors and played a significant role in the day's success.
Later that evening, we also hosted our Parent Information Evening, which was very well attended by families from across the community. We sincerely thank everyone who came along to learn more about our school and the opportunities available for students at Kurnai College. We always appreciate the opportunity to showcase our campus and share the work happening across our school community.
A special thank you must go to Helen Brown and the entire Year 7 team for the enormous amount of work that goes into both Awareness Day and the evening session. Their organisation, care, and commitment played a significant role in making the day such a success.
The annual Attitudes to School Survey will again take place across Victorian government schools over the coming weeks. This survey is an important opportunity for students to provide feedback about their experiences at school, including learning, wellbeing, student voice, connectedness, and relationships.
The information gathered helps us better understand what is working well across our school, while also identifying areas where we can continue to grow and improve. Student feedback plays a valuable role in helping shape future planning and ensuring we continue to build a positive and supportive environment for all learners.
Who: Students in Years 7–10
When: 11th May – 12th June
Why: To help inform and strengthen student experience, engagement, wellbeing, and learning across the college.
We encourage all students to take the time to complete the survey honestly and thoughtfully. Their perspectives are highly valued and help guide ongoing improvement across our school community.
We were excited to recently host the Advanced Learning Program (ALPs) testing sessions for prospective 2026 Year 7 students who are hoping to gain entry into Kurnai’s select entry program.
It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic and capable young learners step up for the opportunity. The level of interest in the program continues to grow, and we are proud to offer a pathway that challenges and extends our academically high-achieving students.
Staff were incredibly impressed with the focus, maturity, and conduct of all participants throughout the testing sessions. It’s clear that the future is bright, and we look forward to welcoming some of these students into our ALPs community next year.
Well done to all who took part!
New Year 8 Locker Bay
After plenty of anticipation, works on the new Year 8 locker bay has finally been scheduled to begin on Friday thr 15th of May. This project has been eagerly awaited by both students and staff, and there is a real sense of excitement about seeing the space take shape over the coming weeks.
The upgraded locker bay will provide students with a more functional and organised space, while also continuing to improve the overall look and feel of the campus. We appreciate everyone’s patience while planning and scheduling for the project has been taking place, and look forward to seeing the finished result up and running in the near future.
