School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

SWPBS - Partnering Together to Support Positive Student Behaviour

Working Together for Student Success

At Wong Park Primary School, we believe that positive behaviour is best supported through strong partnerships between home and school. By working together, we can help students develop the social, emotional and learning behaviours they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Supporting Positive Behaviour in the Classroom

Teachers use a range of proactive strategies every day to support students in making positive choices. These may include gentle reminders, non-verbal cues, redirecting students back to learning, reinforcing school values, or relocating students within the classroom to help them refocus. These low-level behaviours are managed calmly and consistently to minimise disruption to learning.

When behaviours become ongoing, repeated, or significantly impact the safety, wellbeing or learning of others, they may be classified as a major behaviour. In these situations, staff follow clear school processes that may include reflection, relocation to a buddy classroom, restorative conversations, documentation on Sentral, and contact with families.

Why Families May Be Contacted Early

At times, families may receive communication from school regarding behaviours that may seem minor in isolation. We believe that early communication is important in helping us work together proactively before behaviours escalate or become repeated patterns over time. Maintaining open communication allows staff and families to support students consistently and helps students develop self-awareness, accountability and positive strategies for future success.

Partnering with Families

Schools work closely with families to support positive behaviour and student wellbeing. Teachers may contact families early when there are behaviour concerns so that we can work together proactively and consistently.  may also work with families to plan support strategies and check in on student progress over time.

Where appropriate, teachers may provide practical advice, resources or strategies that can support positive behaviour both at school and at home. If additional support is needed, schools can also help connect families with further assistance such as wellbeing services, specialist staff, or local community agencies.

Responding to Major Behaviours

When major behaviours occur, teachers may:

  • conference with students involved

  • gather student statements where appropriate

  • contact parents or carers via phone

  • discuss logical consequences and future learning opportunities

  • work with leadership staff to provide additional support when needed.

A Restorative Approach

Our approach is centred on learning and restoration. We aim to help students understand the impact of their actions, repair relationships where necessary, and develop the skills to make positive choices moving forward.

We thank families for their ongoing support, communication and partnership in helping us maintain a safe, respectful and positive learning environment for all students.
