Transformative Learning

Nerilee Rinkquest, Head of Junior Secondary

When I meet with new families considering our school, I am always pleased to explain that we care not only about learning, but about the growth of the whole student. We value how students learn with their minds, and we are equally committed to how they learn with their hearts and hands. We want every student to understand how God has uniquely created them so they can grow in who they are, with confidence and hope.

As a school, we intentionally design experiences that support the transformation of our students as they develop in faith and character. In Junior Secondary this term, students have already participated in Year 7 camp and a range of incursions, including the Year 7 Friendship Session, the Year 8 Wellbeing Session, and Year 9 COGS. They have also engaged in Year 7 and 9 NAPLAN, the Year 7 excursion to Scienceworks, our Swimming Carnival, and, of course, rich learning across all core and elective classes. Each experience is thoughtfully created to provide meaningful “head, heart, and hands” learning.

Our year‑level camps offer students opportunities to step outside their comfort zone, build resilience, and strengthen their reliance on each other and on God. Alongside this growth, there is plenty of fun and adventure—activities that stretch students physically, while also nurturing community, culture, and appreciation for God’s creation.

When we take students on an incursion or excursion, our purpose is always twofold: to extend learning beyond the classroom and to enrich character and faith formation. A wellbeing session grounded in a Biblical perspective helps students not only better understand themselves but also others. They learn how to be kind, perceptive, reflective, and supportive as they navigate community life. Excursions allow students to experience and explore the world God has made, applying their learning in hands‑on ways so they can flourish as whole people.

Our hope is that every student fully engages in the opportunities we provide—both in and out of the classroom. As we build strong community across all year levels, we pray that every student feels a deep sense of belonging and is eager to take part in experiences that enrich their learning, strengthen their faith, and grow their character.

Micah 6:8

And what does the Lord require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy,

and to walk humbly with your God.

Our aim is to form resilient, character-filled young people of faith. Therefore, every aspect of our school centres on Jesus –
