Year 1: Circus Incursion
Sheridan Pover, Year 1 Teacher
On Wednesday the 4th of March, the Year Ones had an exciting and unforgettable experience during our circus incursion. A talented circus performer visited our school and amazed us with many incredible skills. He showed us impressive juggling, amazing acrobatics and how to spin plates high in the air without letting them fall. We also watched carefully as he used the art of illusion to surprise us and make us wonder how he did his tricks.
After watching the performance, it was our turn to try the circus skills ourselves. We practised juggling using colourful scarves, which helped us learn how to keep objects moving through the air. We enjoyed spinning plates, balancing flower sticks, using hula hoops and learning how to swing pois.
Most of these skills were new and challenging for us, but we showed a wonderful growth mindset. Even when something felt difficult at first, we kept practising and did not give up.
The circus incursion was so much fun and gave us the chance to try skills we had never used before. We learnt that with practice, patience and perseverance, we can do amazing things!
Bursting with Imagination
Zoe Hardy & Eleanor Roberts, Primary Art Teachers
Our art room has been bursting with imagination as children have been inspired by God’s creative order that is culminating in many delightful creations. Both Year Sixes and Preps have been exploring portraiture, being encouraged to sit comfortably in the skin God has given them, not being envious of others or ashamed of who they are but to enjoy how God has made them.
Year One and Year Three’s have been snipping, molding and gluing floral sculptures, encouraged by the work of artists, Dale Chihuly and Yayoi Kusama, and reflecting on Jesus’ command not to worry but to see how God cares for the flowers of the field and to seek Him.
Year Fours have explored the relationship between shape, motif and pattern while creating art inspired by Ming Dynasty pottery. Discussion centred around the ethics of copying artwork; is there a place for copying and how can we be inspired without stealing anothers ideas? God loves to provide inspiration and creativity to everyone.
Year Fives have been engrossed with the designing, making and analysing of radial symmetry prints. This opportunity to reflect on unity, eternity and infinity has been a blessing!
Year Twos have appreciated the satisfying opportunity to mold and decorate clay for both functional and decorative purposes, honing techniques and encouraging each other’s efforts.
It is a privilege to create, to refine skill and to experience satisfaction when our work is effortful, engaging and complete. Well done Primary Art students for your enthusiasm and readiness to learn!
Year 6: Acts of Service
AnnMarie Huddleston, Year 6 Teacher
On Tuesday, Year 6 had a special afternoon of community service as we prepared ourselves for Easter. As Jesus demonstrated the ultimate act of kindness, we wanted to encourage our students to follow in His footsteps by serving others.
During this special afternoon, students had the opportunity to sign up for one of five different activities. These activities include helping Prep classes, helping the horticultural and grounds staff, thanking the Primary staff members, creating gift packs for the DCC staff who go unnoticed and cleaning up the local Mullum Mullum Trail.
Our hope for the day was to see the students serve others as God has instructed us and it was evident through the gratitude of those who received the acts of service and from the smiles on the students’ faces that we had achieved this goal. It was truly a blessing to see our Year 6 students demonstrate Jesus’ kindness as they shifted their focus to the needs of others.
