A Wonderful Start to Our School Year
What a joyful and energetic beginning we have had to our school year! From the very first day, our classrooms have been buzzing with curiosity, excitement, and a real eagerness to learn. I love walking through our learning spaces seeing students enjoying play to start the day, and listening to staff sharing devotions while the students are having fruit break, allowing them to settle quickly into the school day.
Across Kinder to Year 6, we are already noticing strong gains in student progress and some of these were shared at the recent Meet & Greet held in The Ark. Parents and teachers held engaged and open conversations about each of the students and learnt from each other in how each student was progressing and settling into the new school year.
Teachers have been encouraged by the way students are applying themselves, taking pride in their work, and looking for opportunities to grow and look after one another. At morning briefing each day, Mrs Polden and I often speak to the children about what the day could look like and how they could make it a great one for themselves and others.
We see teachers and learning support aides, with expert guidance from Mrs Hall, making improvements across all areas of literacy using data informed practices and a consistent approach to teaching reading.
One of the highlights of the term has been reconnecting with families through our assemblies; even though I am yet to attend one in person! Having parents and carers present to share in our students’ achievements and to see their work in progress makes such a difference. Your support helps create a partnership that strengthens our whole school community. Thank you for taking the time to be part of these; your presence matters, and the children absolutely love seeing you there.
The Parent Group has met twice this term and they would love to see you attend some future meetings if you are able. They are planning a surprise ANZAC celebration and have also been learning about the operations of the school and the work currently being done by staff for School Registration. Students also get to enjoy hot lunches each week thanks to the dedication of a group of parents who make this possible, and we thank them for this.
As we approach Easter, I’d like to share a gentle reminder about the deeper meaning behind this special season. Beyond the chocolate eggs and opportunity for a long weekend, Easter invites us to reflect and reconnect with the Biblical. Can I encourage you to pause and take time to reflect on the gift of Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection, and the joy that comes from knowing Him as our personal Saviour? His sacrifice on the cross allows us to live out from under the burden of sin, as His salvation and forgiveness are free to all.
If your family is looking for a place to connect this Easter, I warmly encourage you to check in with your local church or community events such as:
Good Friday Service on the Hill, Burnie - 3 April 11.00am
Saturday Easter Extravaganza, Anglican Car Park, Burnie - 9.00am–1.00pm
Resurrection Sunday Sunrise Services, Burnie Foreshore - 6.30am
Monday Easter New Life Festival, Wiseman Street, Shorewell, 10.00am–2.00pm
Thank you once again for the support and trust you have in our school.
While I am looking forward to the Easter and Term 1 breaks, I am looking forward to the remainder of the Term finishing well.
Warm regards,
Elizabeth Scheu
