Strong readers ask questions, make connections, and think deeply!
Please encourge your child to read for at least 20 minutes each night and enter this into their Reading Log. after a few hiccups with the Reading Log we have now managed to setup an automated system that stores the entries the students are making. This can also now be accessed by parents on their phones to assist students to complete log entries. The senior classes are maintaining a Senior Ladder for the reading done at home. The teachers don't have a concern who wins, we just want to support the reading at home as we know the benefits that are derived from this. But - we have decided to reward the termly leader with a treat at the end of term. Each fortnight we will publish the leaderboard as we have below. From this you can see what the reading is being done at home by each class, without naming anyone. You also have a fair idea what is happening in your homes. We are now working on the tech side to see if we can automate individual reports to send home to parents. More on this will follow in the fast appraoching Term 2
We've enjoyed reading their insighful reflections throughout the week.

On Friday 20th March, we celebrated Harmony Day at school, and it was fantastic to see so many students proudly dressed in orange to show their support for inclusivity, respect, and belonging. The vibrant display of colour across the school was a wonderful reminder of the importance of celebrating our diverse community and the many cultures that make it so special. Throughout the day, students engaged in conversations and activities that highlighted the message that “everyone belongs,” reinforcing the values we strive to live by every day.

Welcome, gladiators of the playground, to the most momentous sporting spectacle ever witnessed by the watchful gaze of the cheese sandwiches in the canteen! The SEPS Challenge Cup, a competition of such epic proportions, it would make Zeus himself take notes.
The excitement is building for our upcoming Level 6 Challenge Cup on Monday 30th March! The Level 6 classes will compete for an extraordinary trophy and ultimate bragging rights for the entire next term.

Each class will select a sport to challenge the other classes in what promises to be a tournament for the ages. Alongside this, classes will choose a colour theme to proudly represent their team. Students are encouraged to wear sport appropriate casual clothes on the day, along with their class team colour.
While the competition will be fierce, the Challenge Cup is not just about winning, it is about teamwork, team spirit and celebrating each other as we come together for a fun and memorable day.
This term in Literacy, students have continued to build their understanding of our mentor text Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman. They have been exploring how Gleitzman creates tension through slow, deliberate build-ups and how he uses metaphors to convey strong emotions, helping readers connect with characters and understand their motivations.
Throughout the term, students have been practising these techniques in their own writing and producing some powerful responses.
As we move into the final weeks of term, it is now time for students to demonstrate what they have learnt by planning and creating their own short stories, applying these techniques to craft engaging and impactful narratives. We look forward to celebrating their growth and comparing this work to their cold write from earlier in the term.
We are incredibly proud of the effort and commitment students have shown in showcasing the knowledge they have gained this term in Algebraic Thinking and Integers through their recent project. It has been fantastic to see students apply their understanding in creative and meaningful ways, explain their reasoning, and demonstrate real growth in their mathematical thinking. Over the next fortnight, we will be delving deeper into these areas with a strong focus on problem-solving, encouraging students to challenge themselves, think critically, and apply their skills in more complex and engaging contexts.
This term in Inquiry, our focus has been on Australian Parliament, beginning with Federation and the events that led to Australia becoming a nation. Students have explored the reasons for Federation, created timelines of key events, and investigated the origins of Parliament, including the influence of the Magna Carta. More recently, we have been connecting this learning to how Australia’s government works today, including how laws are made and the different levels of government.
To bring all of our understanding together, students are now working in pairs and small groups to design an engaging presentation that teaches others about how Australia became a nation and how our government operates today.
Have you completed the schools Media Permissions and sharing Parent Details forms. Each is liked to the related form. We need these to use student images in this Newsletter and to share your details with other parents in the level.
