Data Celebration – Current Year 2s
This week we celebrate our current Year 2 learners.
Our Leaders of Pedagogy have been unpacking data from our InitiaLit Screeners. The graph below shows the same cohort of learners and their results from the Year 1 InitiaLit Screener (2025) and their results from the Year 2 InitiaLit Screener (2026).
What can we see in the data?
- The number of our learners achieving above 80% has increased by over 25%
- 60% of our learners were below 80% at the beginning of Year 1, now there are only 32% of learners below 80%
We are so proud of the growth our learners have made and the commitment from our staff at St Mary’s.
Throughout the year, the Leaders of Pedagogy will continue to dive into our data and share results with you.
NAPLAN
Learners in Years 3 and 5 will take part in NAPLAN next week. NAPLAN is one of the many assessment tools we use, giving us insights into learner growth over time.
At our school, NAPLAN results sit alongside a range of other assessments and classroom observations to give us a fuller picture of each learner’s growth. It is just one snapshot in time and helps inform our ongoing planning and teaching.
We encourage learners to simply try their best on the day and approach the assessments with a positive mindset.
Our Specialist timetable has been adjusted to support the NAPLAN timetable.
Foundation
In Foundation, for our Inquiry Unit ‘Happy, Healthy and Safe’, we have been learning about the different zones of emotions we go through and the different strategies we can use to help support us when we are in the zones. So far, we have looked at the ‘Green Zone’, when we are calm, focused, and ready to learn; the ‘Yellow Zone’, when we can become a little frustrated and unfocused; and the ‘Blue Zone’, when we are feeling sad and unhappy. Next, we will look at the ‘Red Zone’ which is when we become angry and different ways, we can help calm ourselves down and get back into the green zone.
Year 4
In Year 4, as part of our Inquiry unit, learners have been exploring ways they can thrive through change and help others to do the same. We identified our individual strengths, people who support us, things that make us proud, and ways in which they feel supported and safe. Learners showcased their learning by creating a shield. Through this activity, learners were able to recognise that people respond to situations differently, and learners were able to recognise ways they can support their classmates.
