Instrumental Music News - Chatham Buys a Bass Guitar!  Bass Lessons Now Available

by Yanai Morris from Tuned In Kids

At the end of last year Christopher Cotching, James Rampant - Performing Arts Co-ordinator and I undertook a review and audit of the music equipment at the school.

Out of that process came recommendations to improve the school's instrumental music program.

A number of these were implemented in Term 1, with more to come shortly. Two pianos sitting in different areas around the school were moved to the new instrumental music rooms (a BIG undertaking!), and some vital new equipment has been purchased.

One of the new additions we are very excited about is a bass guitar. Bass is a great instrument to learn, and one that a lot of people - including kids - don't think about when they are choosing instruments. The new bass is of a suitable size for most 7 to 12 year olds.

A bass guitar adds a wonderful deep sound when playing in a band or ensemble. I recommend listening to the great bass lines in songs as diverse as Another One Bites the Dust (Queen), Lounge Act (Nirvana) and Get Lucky (Daft Punk) to notice how special a good bass part can be.

Chatham Primary School is now offering bass guitar lessons with the teachers of both Tuned In Kids and Creative Music. Bass can be a good second instrument for guitar students, and also offers a great alternative to learning 'regular' guitar.

If your child would like to find out what playing and learning bass guitar is like, you can book them in for a free half hour discovery session with me, here at the school, where I can show them some fun simple things to get them started.

Book in your child today if they are keen, as places are limited.  Call Dassana on 0418 356 574 during business hours.
