In Our Classrooms

Year 2 Yarra Valley Water Incursion

This term, our Year 2 students are learning about the importance of sustaining our Earth's natural resources. In week 3, the Year 2 students participated in the Yarra Valley Water Incursion. Our students gained valuable insights into the significance of water conservation, practical strategies for saving water in their households, and learnt all about the water cycle.

The students engaged in an interactive experience, to enrich their understanding of sustainable practices. At the end of the session, students received a Water Watcher to help them in remembering how to save water at home. A big thank you to Yarra Valley Water for running the Incursion.

Prep Learning Update Literacy

In Week 4, the excitement was building and our students were introduced to two new Little Learners Love Literacy letters - Daisy the Dog and Gabby the Goat. To prompt student thinking and wonderings the Prep teachers used a ‘Sound Box’ to explore the new letters and the sound they make. Students took turns taking an object out of the sound box and where encourage to segment the first sound. During the week, the students then used the letters to consolidate their understanding. Below are some student examples.

Year 5 Excursion to the Melbourne Writers Festival

On Wednesday 8th May, a selection of Year 5 students were fortunate enough to attend an excursion to the Melbourne Writers Festival at State Library Victoria. They heard from award-winning authors and acclaimed illustrators to engage them in a broad range of topics from the craft of writing and the challenges of growing up to ecology, innovation, science and First Nations knowledge.

After listening to contemporary, Australian authors such as Anna Zobel, Jordan Gould, Richard Pritchard, Kate and Jol Temple, and Idan Ben-Barak, the students gained valuable advice that can be translated into their own writing projects, such as 'Perfect is the enemy of awesome'. The weather was exceptional and these Year 5 students relished the the opportunity to meet the authors after their speeches and get their books signed.
