WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experiences allow students to learn, gain knowledge, and develop new skills. This can help individuals to grow and develop as a person, develop confidence in themselves and their abilities, and their future choices.

Here are some of our students experience:

From 8 to 12 April I travelled to Canberra to participate in a work experience program with the forensics division of the Australian Federal Police (AFP). It was an amazing opportunity and was incredibly eye-opening to learn about and to try all the different fields of forensics. The program had both theoretical learning and practical application of the learnt skills, making it interesting and fun.

We engaged in CSI, learnt how to properly package evidence, recovered DNA and fibers, did fingerprint analysis, had a talk from search and imagery and digital forensics, handled firearms and learnt how to do examinations of them, and learnt about the different court procedures and protocols.

Overall, I got to meet many lovely people and talk about their career paths and how they got there. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in forensics applies for a position in the placement, its very informative of the different aspects of forensics. It helped to solidify my passion for forensics and provided me with an insight into a future career path which I am aiming for. I am very grateful to the AFP for this opportunity and highly recommend the program to anyone considering a career in forensics.

During the first week of school holidays, I attended work experience at the Mildura Health Private Hospital. I chose this placement so that I can experience the atmosphere of what it’s like being a nurse in a health care environment. Glad to say I had a very enjoyable time and the people I worked with was very nice. It is a worthwhile experience, you learn to do a lot of stuff and every day is different. I was hoping to be able to observe and learn to do tasks that is beneficial for my future career, and I certainly did.”

I did my work experience at Mildura Health Private Hospital (MHPH) to gain awareness of the physical and emotional challenges of a medical career, as well as to understand the working lives of healthcare professionals. I was able to see the challenges faced by staff and how they used their skills to overcome them. Through this work experience, I was able to observe and learn how members of a diverse team communicate and collaborate in a variety of situations. Furthermore, this gave me an opportunity to enhance my communication skills and allowed me to gain an understanding of nursing from different perspectives. This work experience will give an insight for students interested in healthcare.
