Maribyrnong Interschool Sports

On Tuesday 26th March 2024, the Volleyball Girls and I went to Maribyrnong Sports Academy and versed in the Year 7 Girls Volleyball. We all walked into the Maribyrnong Gym feeling nervous but also excited. We got into our teams of Team A and Team B. Team A went first, going against Maribyrnong Girls. We had fun playing together, playing against other schools and making new friends. Team B had their first game against Creekside. During the breaks we all played together practising our skills. We tried our hardest and encouraged each other when playing together or watching the other team play. We had fun at the end watching the final schools playing and also playing volleyball and soccer with the other schools. After a long tiring day, we hopped on the bus and picked up the Volleyball Boys. We all had fun playing against all the other schools and can't wait for the next interschool sports day.

Athletics Carnival

Monday 29th April saw Yarrabing run it’s inaugural Athletics Carnival at Bridge Road Athletics Track. The weather looked ominous in the week leading up to the day but we managed to get through the day without the weather impacting us which was fantastic.

All students were encouraged to participate in as many events as they could, with a prize offered to the class with the highest participation across the day. We saw some great efforts athletically, but we also saw many students represent our school values equally as well. We have issued school values awards to the following students, some because they tried events and surprised themselves, some because they supported their friends and classmates, some because they couldn’t participate due to injury but chose to assist us in running our school carnival, some who were outstanding in the class dance off, some because they did all of these things. Congratulations to:

Khushmeet Pannu & Archer Owens - 7A

Ravneet Kaur & Asmit Singh - 7B

Japneet Kaur & Rannvir Wraich - 7C

Lucy Morris & Jacob Nguyen - 7D

Savreet Sekhon & Jeremiah McCoy - 7E

Jesslyn Nguyen & Angad Singh - 7F

Siara Maddern & Arnav Pawar - 7G

Results from each event will be used to create our school athletics team, this will be decided by time for the running events across an age group (not just coming first as there were multiple first place runners in each of the running events) and measurement on the day for jumping and throwing events, these students will informed, train and have the opportunity to represent Yarrabing in Term 3 at the Division Athletics day.

We also used the results from the events to generate age group champions (points totalled from all event entered), congratulations go to:

12/13 Joint Girls Champions (on the same points) Mia Yuzhik Shrebati - 7G & Maiah Papani -  7G, with the runner up Watchen Jerue - 7E

12/13 Boys Champion - Cristvie Chubaka - 7G, Runner up Champion - Minn Lian 7C, Third-  Nmachi Mathew - 7G

As mentioned at the beginning of this report, students were encouraged to participate in as many events as possible and the class with the highest participation goes to 7F (who had all but one student attend the day and participate in multiple events). The class with this highest points for the day (total of participation and results) goes to 7G.

Many thanks go to all of the wonderful staff at Yarrabing who learnt new events and skills to run the day, organised their children to come and assist in running events and contribute to a wonderful whole school event.
