Young people can feel anxious about many different things going on in their lives.

Feeling anxious can make us want to hide away, feel easily irritated, worried and unhappy. It can also affect our relationships with others, as well as our eating and sleeping routines.

There are lots of ways to calm anxiety, it’s just a matter of finding what works for you!

  • Acknowledge your feelings - it’s okay to admit that you are feeling the way you are.
  • Take a break from activities that stress you out.
  • Take a few slow breaths. Breathe in slowly. Be sure to breathe out all the way. Do this 4 or 5 times.
  • Go for a walk or exercise.
  • Write down some things that you are grateful for - gratitude reminds us of the good things in life.
  • Listen to some music, play with your pet, go for a walk or cook something - get creative! Creativity is a great way to focus on a new and fun task.
  • Talk to a trusted adult about what is troubling you - getting it off your chest is important.
  • Organise your space, whether it’s your bedroom or your school bag. Being organised helps us to feel positive.
  • Squeeze a stress ball or fidget item.
  • Don’t hide away, even if you feel like it.
  • Eat healthy and get enough hours of sleep every night.
  • Be kind to yourself.
