Specialist Classes

SPORT

It has been wonderful joining the team and getting active these first two weeks at St Pats! In PE we have been all about preparing for the cross country which will be happening next Tuesday!

In the junior years we have been running laps of the school oval and it has been impressive to see how fast those little legs can take them. The students have been building their endurance and trying to get further each time.

The seniors are all familiar with the track as last week we went for a walk to ensure all the students understand where to go. There were lots of nerves but excitement when discussing how it will all go next Tuesday!

Abby has been on fire at the running club each Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning before school. She is helping the students think about how they start and finish a race while also considering their pace. Thanks Abby!!

Important events:

30th of April: Cross Country at the Brose Oval 10am-12pm

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday: Running Club before school

STEM

This term in STEM all the senior students will be working with our newly purchased Lego Education Spike kits. These kits are an extension of regular lego and include motors, sensors and hubs. They are supported by an online app that incorporates the use of Scratch, an online coding program.

This week we identified different types of robots and their uses, recognised robots are becoming part of our everyday lives and were introduced to a variety of terms related to robots and robotic technology.

The students followed this up by working together to construct their own robotic hand using straws and string. It was a challenge but loads of fun!!!!

ART

We began the term in Art with some poppies and silhouette art for ANZAC day. They made a beautiful commemorate display in our foyer. We have some beautiful displays of Art work by our talented students around the school for everyone to admire including a colourful display of self portraits which were inspired by Spanish artist Romero Britto.

ITALIAN

Buongiorno a tutti!

To begin this term all classes have been engaged in a variety of games and songs to consolidate their learning of numbers in Italian. Whilst Foundation students are counting to 10, grades 5/6 students can count to 50 and beyond.  Games of Buzz in Italian and Bingo (Tombola) were enjoyed by all.
