A Spotlight on Learning in the JLC on Heights Campus
What a great start to term 2! Our students commenced the term excited and looking forward to all the learning ahead. Already in week 1 we had the amazing Cinderella performance that the whole school attended. As the actors asked questions the JLC students eagerly participated and replied to them during and after the performance. We all laughed and sang during the play and enjoyed it very much. When we returned to school we shared our views and wrote about our experiences.

In Reading, we have been learning to retell a story we have been reading by talking about the beginning, middle and end of a story using time connectives in sequence. We look for key vocabulary and recall the main events in order to retell what has been happening in the story, who the characters are, where the story is taking place, what is happening and how it finally ends.
For Mathematics we are learning to represent numbers and their value up to 1000 and beyond. Students made numbers, identified their value, how many hundreds and/or tens and ones were in the number and represented the number using hands on materials.
Below is are some examples of how we do this.
Our exciting Zoo excursion came along on Friday April 26th, and what a success it was. The JLC had a lovely day exploring the zoo pretending to be world scientists, whilst looking at the animals in their enclosures and reading information displayed about them.
The JLC had a special session with one of the zoo teachers who spoke to them about the animals and the zoo. The students had the opportunity to ask him questions about queries they had.
During Projects, the JLC students are learning to explore ideas for characters and situations through dramatic play. They are practising taking turns in exploring ideas and feelings and taking part in a dramatic play in small group improvisations.
The JLC teachers are so proud of how the students have commenced school this term and we are looking forward to working with our wonderful students and continue supporting them in their learning.
