END OF TERM WRAP UP

T1 2024

Term 1 was a busy term that included wonderful learning and some exciting events for our students.

We introduced our High Behaviour Expectations that encompass our School Values – We are Respectful, We are Inclusive, We are Learners. Staff acknowledge students when they display these Values by awarding House Points. This term our students earned a Whole School Celebration and voted to have a PJ Day on the last day of term! Next term we will focus on a different high behaviour expectation and work towards earning a different Whole School Celebration.

Other exciting events this term have included:

  • Reception to Year 4 Fringe Performance Excursions
  • Year 5/6 Excursion to the Museum of Discovery in the City
  • Swimming Week for Reception to Year 4 students and the Aquatics Water Safety Program at Port Noarlunga Beach for our older students
  • Easter Celebrations including our wonderful Easter Hat Parade for Castle children parading in front of their families and friends
  • Harmony Day Activities
  • Actively develops Empathy

Staffing Update

Next term we welcome our new Aboriginal Community Education Officer, Jharni Perry. Jharni will support our Aboriginal students and families as well as provide support for staff in classrooms and learning programs. Welcome Jharni!

Ultimate Community Role Model (UCRM)

As part of Play is the Way, next term we will begin Ultimate Community Role Model (UCRM). The aim of the UCRM is to use a child’s entire Primary School journey to deeply entrench the 6 key Virtues that comprise the Ultimate Virtue of Empathy. Once embedded, these Virtues will serve as lifelong guides that enrich the life of every student, thereby leading to safer, kinder and more considerate societies.

These 6 Virtues link directly with our School Values of Friendliness, Good Manners, Courage, Compassion, Tolerance and Persistence/Resilience and our High Behaviour Expectations of We are Respectful, We are Inclusive and We are Learners.

As part of this process, students can be formally acknowledged for consistently demonstrating these values throughout their schooling, with the aim of being eligible for the Ultimate Community Role Model in Year 6. Students who are awarded the Virtues will be presented with a Certificate at assembly and acknowledged at a Morning Tea with their families.

There are several benefits to UCRM including:

  • Encourages students to act as Community Role Models
  • Deepens sense of belonging
  • Deepens Staff/Student understanding and relationships.
  • Frequent assessment of behaviour and positive corrective feedback.
  • Increases student self awareness and self management.

Keep an eye out for more information next term.

Have a happy and safe holiday break with your wonderful children and we look forward to seeing you for a busy and productive Term 2.

Kind regards,

Sally Slattery
