Week 4, Term 2

STEM

Grade 1 and 2 

Students are investigating animals and their offspring. They will observe the differences and similarities to the animal’s parents and discuss how the parents care for their young. 

 

Grade 3 and 4 

Students will research and begin to create a fictional animal that would thrive in a chosen habitat. Students will research animals from their chosen habitat and note common features and diets they can apply to their fictional animal. 

 

Grade 5 and 6 

Students will research different ecosystems and environments to create a document that details a food web and environmental features. E.g. Climate, soil type etc. 

Visual Arts

This week all grades will be finishing off and wrapping their surprise presents for their special person. 

Physical Education

Prep PE

This week, students will be introduced to the fundamental movement skill of leaping. They will be encouraged to keep their eyes forward and maintain balance when landing. 

 

Prep Sensory

Students will participate in rotational activities with the focus of improving their core strength, balance and ability to work in a small group.

 

Grade 1 and 2

While learning the fundamental movement skill of leaping, students will be encouraged to keep their eyes focused forward, take off from one foot and land on the opposite. They will continue to review running, throwing and catching during our rotating games and activities.

 

Grade 3 and 4

We will continue to learn the key skills required for the game of soccer, and participate in a modified game called ‘soccer skittles’.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students will refine the key skills of soccer, and be encouraged to apply these skills in a game situation.

 

Performing Arts

🎵 Prep

Students are continuing to explore beat patterns using body percussion and instruments. They will use clapsticks to play beat patterns in a First Nations song they are learning. 

 

🎤 Grade 1 and 2

Students are investigating the musical element of ‘pitch’ through listening and moving to music. They will categorise sounds as high and low and arrange these sounds to match music tracks. Students will also explore the xylophone and how the notes are arranged by pitch on the instrument. 

 

🎶 Grade 3 and 4

Students are exploring how stories are told through drama. They will learn about more elements of drama, including character, and voice and movement. They will develop a character using their voice and bodies to bring a simple script to life. 

 

🎭 Grade 5 and 6

Students will learn about Bunraku puppetry and how this relates to the puppets they are developing. They will create a large puppet requiring at least three people to operate and explore how it can accurately copy a human activity.
