Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 4, Term 2

🌱LITERACY

In Literacy this week, we will be investigating the historic events surrounding Kevin Rudd's 2008 'Sorry' speech and the Stolen Generation. Students will be reading and viewing texts sharing a range of stories and perspectives. They will be exploring new vocabulary, responding to questions and sharing their knowledge they have discovered about this topic.

Using the mentor text Mallee Sky, students will create a written piece about a place special to them; a connection to Country. We will explore how devices such as figurative language, 'Show, Don't Tell' and illustrations can elevate and enhance the written word.

What you can do at home

Help your child to set aside time to read - preferably every night. This will help them build important learning habits. Your child now has access to Reading Eggspress, to help with adding variety to their range of text choices.

🌱 NUMERACY

In Numeracy this week, we will be continuing to consolidate our understanding of multiplicative thinking and the inverse relationship between multiplication and division. Additionally, Grade 6's will create connections between division, fractions, decimals and percentages.

What you can do at home

Students have access to set multiplication and division questions on Mathletics. Please encourage them to achieve 1000 points each week.
