Before/After School

📰 News Groups: My mum is special because ...

Please help your child prepare by talking about how they are going to share this information with their group.

CURRICULUM

📚 Reading

-We are introducing basic information texts (non fiction texts) where students can learn about a native Australian animal, through shared reading of Big Books and library books.

-Students will build words with the medial vowel 'o' to practise making and decoding words.

-Our decoding strategy for this week will be to continuous blending of the word (make the sounds stick together to help with remembering the sounds).

What can you do at home?

-Help your child to read their 'take home' book each night

-Make words with your sound cards and practise continuous blending

-Continue to revise the sounds on the sound/letter rings

📝 Writing

Students will write, in a variety of ways, about their mum, in preparation for Mother's Day.

We will practise the formation of the upper and lowercase letter 'o'.

What can you do at home?

-Engage in fine motor tasks such as sorting, threading, writing, colouring, making, building, play dough and painting

-Reinforce correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home

🔡 Phonics

Our phonics focus this week is learning about the letters 'u', 'f' and 'b'. They will learn their sounds and the cued articulation. They will also use these sound to create and read VC and CVC* words such as 'up', 'fit' and 'bed'.

(*Consonant - Vowel - Consonant)

What can you do at home?

-Ask: show me the cued articulation for 'u', 'f' and 'b'.

-Find words with 'u', 'f' and 'b' in their take home books (or any others)

-Log onto reading eggs and try 'fast phonics' to practise letters and sounds

🔢  Maths

We are learning about, and using, the language of location and direction. Concepts of left / right, over / under, in front / behind, etc, will be explored through outside, hands on, 'whole 'body' learning.

What can you do at home?

-Discuss the concepts with your child at home. Ask your child to demonstrate their understanding by creating obstacle courses at home and building the language of location and direction.

-Discuss the concept of 'left' and 'right' eg. when you're driving, putting on shoes, etc.

🌏 CBL - Country

We are creating a list of what and who lives on Country, particularly the people, animals and plants. We will listen to stories, view short videos and share current knowledge to build our understanding.

👯 Friendology

This session teaches students strategies for making new friends, including how to introduce themselves and ask a friend to play.
