English

By Mrs Ivana Krsteska & Miss Amanda Seach

Level 2 - Mrs Ivana Krsteska

In Term 2 of English Innovation, learners will explore a different pathway to creating a story. Rather than beginning with an idea and building the characters around it, learners will create a main character in detail, noting their characteristics and using these to drive the narrative. Once they have published their own story, students will be learning the craft of merging storylines with a partner during which they will explore the relationship between the two main characters.

Level 3 - Mrs Ivana Krsteska

In Term 2 of English Innovations, learners will publish a ‘Create your own Adventure’ story, where they will enable the reader to actively participate in the decision-making process. During the drafting stage of writing, they will explore multiple pathways and scenarios their narrative stories could take. This is a challenging process as there are many factors to consider for the story to make sense and engage the reader. When their story is ready for publishing, they will be using Digital Technologies to create an interactive visual story where the reader can select their preferred pathway and impact how the story unravels.

Level 4 - Mrs Amanda Seach

In Term 2 of English Innovation, learners are creating non-fiction texts with a focus on informing. They will be exploring ways of note taking to gather information and formulate paragraphs using topic sentences of varied types to engage the reader along with inclusion of supporting details and appropriate concluding sentences. They will move through the writing process – Plan, Draft, Revise, Edit and then publish their writing in an Innovators nonfiction book that will be housed in our school library.

Level 5 - Mrs Ivana Krsteska

In Term 2 of English Innovation, learners will explore the craft of writing a picture story book. Building on the learning in Term 1, which focused on writing to one main idea and maintaining clarity, learners will deepen their authorship skills and learn to say more with less. This will entail learners experimenting with a variety of language choices that will make the reader pause and think deeply about the story. Learners will have the opportunity to publish their picture story books and place them in the library for others to read!

Level 6 - Mrs Ivana Krsteska
In Term 2 of English Innovation, learners will be the body behind the student magazine, ‘Grapevine’. The Innovations will mimic a real-life magazine production process. Learners will brainstorm content ideas. In groups, they will create the content through research, interviews and collaboration. By the end of the term everyone will have experienced developing three different magazine sections, such as Interviewing, Feature Articles, Sports News, Events etc. They will experience working to a deadline and learn the skills of time management in a group setting.
