From Our School Leaders

With such as busy start to Term 2, it has been nice to see all the students settling back into the normal routine.

Curriculum Day – Student Voice, Agency And Leadership (SVAL)

Last Friday, our staff participated in a Curriculum Day based around Student Voice, Agency and Leadership (SVAL).

What is Student Voice?

Student Voice is not simply about giving students the opportunity to communicate ideas and opinions; it is about students having the power to influence change. Authentic student voice provides opportunities for students to collaborate and make decisions with adults around what and how they learn, and how their learning is assessed. This is known to lead to improved educational outcomes.

What is Student Agency?

Student Agency refers to the level of autonomy and power that a student experiences in the learning environment. Student voice and agency are intrinsically linked. Agency gives students the power to direct and take responsibility for their learning, creating independent and self-regulating learners.

Teachers spent time developing their understanding around these concepts and what they can look like from a classroom perspective.

The House with the most entries will win the Lego House Cup, and there will also be individual prizes at each level for the most creative creation.

Sustainability

Scoresby Primary School now has two bins in which we can collect eligible recyclable containers.

Most aluminium, glass, plastic and liquid paperboard (carton) drink containers between 150ml and 3 litres are eligible.

If you would like to recycle these containers, feel free to drop them off in our bins either outside the office or in the BER building.

Attitude To School Survey Years 4-6

Scoresby Primary School will once again be participating in the Attitude to School Survey (AtoSS). The AtoSS is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education to assist schools to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. This year, the AtoSS will be conducted at Scoresby PS school from 6th May until 14th June. If you do not want your child to participate in this survey, please email kellie.symons@education.vic.gov.au to let us know.

Respectful Behaviours In The School Community

We have a wonderful community here at Scoresby PS, and it is important that we continue to work together and treat each other with respect and kindness. The Department of Education and Training has released a policy that describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers and other adults in Victorian school communities.

The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults. There are also other resources to support safe and respectful relationships in our school community, including information about getting involved in the school, advice on how to raise a concern or complaint, and parenting support resources.

Our HEART values are at the core of how we work together and it is important for our students to see these values also modelled within our school community.
