CLEVER CLASS

During the past few weeks we have been busy learning all about Australia’s neighbouring countries. Apart from New Zealand, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, many of them are made up of lots of small islands which are scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. Some of them are part of the Ring of Fire which is a ring of active volcanoes in the region.

Here are some interesting facts:

Did you know that in the highlands of Papua New Guinea some mountains are so tall they can have snow even though the country is very near the Equator?

Did you know that the Solomon Islands is made up of 6 larger islands and over 900 smaller ones?

Indonesia has over 17,200 islands! That’s a lot of islands. Indonesia also has 147 volcanoes and over half are active. It is also home to the world’s largest flower which can grow up to a metre across.

Fiji is home to fire walking where people walk metres across a fire pit without burning their feet.

Samoa sits right in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and is about halfway between Australia and Hawaii.

So many interesting countries around us with different customs, foods, languages, animals and plants. If we're lucky enough we may visit some one day.
