Dear Principals,

I hope you had a restful break, enjoying the change of pace and quality time with loved ones. We’re now back into the swing of things transitioning out of 'holiday mode' and into 'work mode'.  

To help you prepare for the year ahead, here's an idea to help you become clear on what you want to achieve in leading literacy in 2025 and how to get there. 

I've called this, the 3, 6, 11 strategy for literacy success.

By the end of the year (December 2025) 

11 months from now…

• Think about a long-term goal- 11 months from now, what do you want to look back and be proud of?
• What do you want to achieve by the end of the year in terms of your literacy or leadership practice?
• Choose ONE thing (I know, you want to do it all!)
• How will you know you’ve achieved it?
• What will success look like?

By the end of Term 2 (June/July 2025) 

6 months from now…

• Are you on track to achieve your goal? How do you know?
• What steps do you need to bring you closer to your literacy or leadership goal?
• What resources do you need to help you get there?
• What haven’t you considered yet to get you there?
• And what else?

By the end of Term 1 (March/April 2025) 

3 months from now…

• What needs the most attention in my practice right now? How do I know?
• Who/what can help me?
• And what else?
• What’s my first action step? When will I take it?
• What will success look like by the end of Term 1?
• How will I know I’ve been successful? What will success look like for me?
