EHS CAREERS
This has been a big year in careers. Students have engaged in a variety of activities in and out of the school which have broadened their experiences of career opportunities.
56 students have participated in work experience this year, completing 89 placements. From this group of students, 13 students have been offered apprenticeships through their work experiences.
Workplace learning enables students to develop skills, knowledge and experience in their chosen industry. Students from 14 years of age have the opportunity to engage in workplace learning while at school. They are supported by the school’s career adviser, departmental policy, resources and insurances. Work experience should be tailored to suit a student’s needs, it can be one day per week, a block of five days.
“Work experience is key – until students do hands-on work, they don’t realise what it will be like in the workplace.” Review of Secondary Education
Employers want people who have completed work experience as it shows they are motivated to enter into a chosen career and have a passion and interest in the industry or business. Recent surveys have revealed that up to 75% of employers look to employ candidates with experience in the workplace.

WORK EXPERIENCE ADF AIRFORCE FAMILIARISATION WILLIAMTOWN
Two EHS student had the privilege of having their application to complete three days of work experience at the RAAF Base in Williamtown. Below is one students recollection of their time.
Overall I say that I am very appreciative for getting the opportunity to experience this. Being able to see all the daily duties of those working in our military was a thrilling experience and all the people working took the time to make fun explanations and give us a memorable time, I got to wear and manoeuvre a bomb suit, hold multiple firearms (unloaded), witness an F-35 up close and view their takeoff and even apply tourniquets to myself. I got especially lucky with my work experience team as I got along very well with everyone else who was there (which was a very diverse cast of people like people from Melbourne all the way to Queensland) and it made the experience an even higher level of enjoyment. I absolutely loved the air force and it opened my eyes to new career paths I hadn't even thought about before.
