Year 12 2024
Farewell Year 12, 2024
The year 12 class of 2024 have finally graduated! 13 years of schooling came to a close at graduation evening on Thursday 26th October. To say that I, as their Year Adviser and we as a school community are immensely proud of this year group is an understatement. Year 12 of 2024 is a truly remarkable group of people (and the best year group ever!). During their six years at EHS they have grown into a group of immensely likeable young adults. Their final days of high school were somewhat bittersweet - filled with both excitement and fear to see where the world would take them next. Their cohesion as a year group was amazing, and it was most evident in their final week of school as they came together to celebrate the end of their high school journey in many creative and fun-filled ways.
The end of Term Two was understandably stressful for Year 12, yet they all managed to get through their Trial HSC examinations in one piece. For some it may have been a bit of a wake-up call before the REAL exams in October. For others, it was fingers crossed for early entry!
Term Three was relatively quiet – getting back into the routine of classes and another round of assessment tasks. Clearly there was a sense that the end was nigh, and the pressure was off for most students who received one or more of their university preferences. In between numerous 18th birthday parties and shopping for that perfect outfit, they were clearly looking forward to WEEK 10. Dressing up as their childhood hero and having to come to school with “anything but a bag” was challenging enough (and they, as usual, did so with creativity and class) it was the FLASH MOB that was the highlight of the week. For weeks prior, they rehearsed at lunchtimes, at home, in class, in the playground and it paid off - they performed the best flash mob in living memory!!
It was incredible to see the way in which the students rallied behind their illustrious leaders – Caterina Webber and Emma Evans (Baby Bosses 1&2) and despite a few ups and downs, they became one big happy family. The picnic day on Friday was a nice way to just hang out and eat, and nobody could deny that they had a lot of fun times and made many memorable moments that I'm sure they will cherish for a long time.
Caterina deserves a special mention here. She is an amazing young lady who has been the biggest support to me throughout the past couple of years. She is always willing to help out no matter what the task. Valentine’s Day, school carnivals, fundraising, picnic day, flash mob and graduation, Caterina was always in the thick of it, playing a major role in the organisation and planning of these many events. Remarkably, she was the main student responsible for the creation of the Year 12 yearbook. If you have yet to see this publication, it is honestly a work of art! The number of hours she committed to this was phenomenal, and Year 12 truly owe her a debt of gratitude!
The Year 12 Graduation in the school hall was a wonderful evening that showcased the many amazing talents of these fine young people. Congratulations to the award recipients, the talented performers who entertained us, the many speakers and the new school captains, Rylee Schaefer and Bethany Collins who began their official duties by chairing the evening. A massive congratulations to Tyler Lloyd who was awarded most outstanding student of Year 12 – an achievement that is more special when you consider the number of extra-curricular activities Tyler has been a part of this year! A special thank you to both Samantha Dennis and Bernadette Lavorato for their meticulous organisation of the evening and helping to make so memorable for the students.
The finale of Year 12 2024 was of course the Formal that was held on Thursday 21st November at Panorama House. The students looked spectacular! Who could forget Xavier’s shockingly pink suit. The food was excellent, the awards entertaining, and the dance floor alive with students ‘rocking the night away.’
As their Year Adviser I would like to leave them with seven pieces of wisdom that I’m sure they will keep with them always:
1.The journey of your success will always begin with the small step of taking the chance.
2. Your education is never complete as life constantly teaches you new things every day.
3. Don’t allow the voice of your fears to be louder than other voices in your head.
4. You never really lose until you stop trying.
5. The way you see the world is only up to one person and that is you. Will you see the world as a precarious or dreary place or as a beautiful one full of potential. You have the choice. Remember it might be a bad day, but that doesn’t mean a bad life.
6. Dance like nobody is watching, sing like no-one’s listening. Life is an adventure. Hold it, save it and share it with others.
7. And lastly, if all else fails, run home to mum.
On behalf of Year 12 I would like to thank the support and effort of Miss G over the past three years who has worked behind-the-scenes on many of their memorable moments, and Mrs. Siope and Mr Sambuco for the ongoing support, guidance and care you have shown towards Year 12.
I will miss you all dearly. Live long and prosper, and may you have no regrets.
Malco
