Start Up Program

At the start of every year we incorporate our School Start Up Program into our first few weeks of school. As a class we will discuss what we would like and expect our class to look, feel and sound like. We develop our classroom rules together so all students have input. We have walked around the school and identified areas we play in and areas we feel safe.

We are so proud of how all of our students have settled into Grade 1 and 2 and loving being back at school!

Recount Writing

Our writing focus for the start of the year is recount writing. Every Monday we are talking and writing about an event that occured over our weekend. We have some prompts to help us with our writing, it would be a great opportunity to have a discussion over dinner on Sunday night, breakfast Monday morning or on the walk or drive to school on Monday to ask your child these prompt questions to get some ideas flowing ready for their writing.

What am I going to write about? - Students think of an event that they would like to write about (eg. a trip to the park, a Birthday party)

Who did I do this with? - Who was with me during this event?

When did the event occur?  - Was it on Saturday or Sunday? In the morning, afternoon or evening?

What did we do? - Students are to detail what they did during this event.

Where did I go? - Students will describe where they went for the event.

How I felt? - Students will describe how they felt during and after this event and why they felt this way.

We are looking forward to a wonderful year in Grade 1 and 2. Our Home Learning program will commence next week (week 3), please keep an eye out for a Compass post with information on this.
