Celebrating 2024!

Dear CPS Community,

As another year draws to a close, it’s a perfect opportunity to reflect on all we have accomplished together in 2024. What an extraordinary year it has been!

Learning and Growth

  • We implemented a multi-sensory synthetic phonics program for Foundation to Grade 2, supported by comprehensive training for all junior school staff, with senior staff now joining the journey.
  • Rolled out new teaching and learning models aligned with explicit teaching principles, ensuring consistent and high-quality learning experiences.
  • School Improvement team’s participation in the Department’s Playbook initiative, identifying school-wide consistent routines and practices to enhance student outcomes.

Student Achievements

  • Impressive results in NAPLAN, reflecting the hard work of both our students and teachers.
  • Great participation and success in ICAS competitions, with many students receiving awards.
  • Engagement in the John Monash Science Program, culminating in a fantastic showcase event, which was wonderfully supported by our community.

Professional Excellence

  • Delivered targeted professional learning for teachers, focused on evidence-based practices.
  • Introduced learning walks and peer observations to foster ongoing teacher development and collaboration.
  • Began our journey with School-Wide Positive Behaviours, developing new school values: Respect, Resilience, Integrity, and Curiosity.

Community and Events

  • Hosted classroom open mornings, which provided families with an opportunity to engage with their child’s learning.
  • Held memorable events such as athletics and swimming carnivals, school camps, and excursions.
  • Launched our first-ever Colour Run, which brought the community together and raised over $20,000 with an impressive profit of $14,983
  • Celebrated creativity and fun at our Music Fiesta, a highlight for many!
  • Multiple fundraisers, Mother/Father’s Day stalls, icypole days, mangoes and pies, and an amazing disco raising an impressive $2,771

Our School

  • Completed the refurbishment of senior school spaces, creating modern and inviting classrooms.
  • Transformed our school entrance with beautiful landscaping, making it a more welcoming space.
  • Undertook external painting and outdoor redevelopment projects, enhancing our school’s appearance and functionality.

This year has been filled with countless opportunities for learning, connection, and growth. We are truly grateful for the incredible support of our CPS community—our students, families, and staff. Together, we continue to make CPS a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Wishing you all a safe and joyful holiday season. Here’s to an even more exciting 2025!

CELEBRATIONS

Congratulations to Katherine and Thet, two of our Year 6 students at Carnegie PS, who have been awarded  Glen Eira College Academic Scholarships for 2025. The scholarship is based on academic results, leadership and participation in activities as demonstrated in their primary years at Carnegie. Well done girls! We are truly very proud of both of you.

WELCOMES AND FAREWELLS

Welcome

  • Alexandra Fazio - Classroom Teacher

Farewell

Tess Yoshida: It is with a mix of sadness and pride that we farewell a dedicated and passionate member of our CPS community, Tess Yoshida, who has been an integral part of our school for an incredible 20 years.

Tess has been an outstanding LOTE teacher, inspiring generations of students with her passion for languages and cultures. Whether teaching Italian or Japanese, she has brought language to life with creativity, expertise, and a deep commitment to her students' learning. Her ability to teach multiple languages is an amazing talent and she has enriched our school community in countless ways.

Tess began our sister school relationship with a primary school in Japan. Students have spent time writing to their pen friends and speaking with them via WebEx during the year. We will miss Tess’ passion and energy for her subject.

It’s no surprise that Tess has been selected for an exciting new opportunity at another school—a testament to her skills and dedication. While we will miss her, we know she will continue to make an impact wherever she goes.

In 2025 Tess will teach senior secondary students to year 12 VCE.

Thank you Tess, for 20 years of service and inspiration. You have left a mark on CPS, and we wish you every success in this next chapter of your career.

Buona fortuna and ganbatte! We’ll miss you!

Emma Whitby has been offered a 12-month opportunity at South Melbourne Park Primary. This role will allow her to continue honing her skills in evidence-based practices while also exploring a creative side through involvement in their school production and arts-based projects. Emily joined Carnegie as a graduate teacher just two years ago, teaching in both Grade 6 (2023) and Grade 2 (2024).

Geoff Boxer, one of our Grade 4 teachers who has spent the year developing his craft and working closely with his students, level team and staff to grow and learn. We wish him well with his future teaching endeavours.

With Gratitude to you all,

Karen Roberts

I wish to acknowledge the traditional owners of

the lands on which this is being read and pay my respects to elders past present and emerging. I wish to acknowledge our First Nations people and pay respects to them. I note further that these lands were never ceded and are, and always will be, Aboriginal Lands.
