Learning Diversity

Dear Families,

If you feel that your child may need extra support or has a Disability that the school is not aware of, please contact the office and ask to speak to Sally Thomas or email me sthomas@saseaford.catholic.edu.au

2025 Diversity

Teachers are now aware of who they have in their grade for 2025. All information discussed at the PSG meetings for Term 4 will be passed on in our handover process over the last day and first day of school in 2025.

Importantly, if anything changes for your child over the holidays please send an email to the teacher and me so that we are aware of any adjustments that need to be made for a smooth transition to school.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to working with you in 2025.

REMINDER ABOUT CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

Christmas can be a stressful time for people with Autism and other sensory profiles, but knowing the schedule of celebrations in advance, the social expectations and likely sensory experiences will reduce stress and encourage successful engagement and the creation of happy memories for all family members.

Here are some suggestions to help with a smooth Christmas for all.

Strategies for coping with the social expectations of Christmas celebrations can include:

  • Create and explain the schedule of activities and who will be there.
  • Arrive early when few family members are present and the house is relatively calm and leave early.
  • A parent to monitor the autistic person’s signs of stress and have regular opportunities throughout the celebrations for energy and emotional recovery in a quiet sanctuary in the house.
  • Educate all family members on the perspective of the autistic person and how they can help in areas such as expressions of affection and needing personal space as well as sensory sensitivity and what would be an appreciated present.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SENDING MEDICAL INFORMATION AND REPORTS

As a result of the Quality Assurance process and discussion. It is recommended that all medical documentation and reports that families are sending to staff be sent via email or in a hard copy.  Please do not use the seesaw app to send medical information to school.
