Well done to Maxime, Isaac, Xanthe, Julie & Adabelle for competiting in the recent Coburg district swimming trials in Brunswick. They competed in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke events.

Over the last few weeks the 5/6 students have been learning some basketball skills from the Broncos basketball club. This clinic winds up this week after 4 weeks of learning new skills and games

SEDA college Essendon has also been running some footy clinics for the Preps through to the Grade 6 students. They have been rotating in groups and learning some footy skills, while having some fun at the same time.

STEM NEWS

It has been all go in the STEM program and the end of Term is rapidly approaching.

In Prep we have been focussing on following a science investgation whilst looking at the properties of materials. Our theme has been the 3 Little Pigs story and we have investigated building house out of straw and sticks. We will finish with brick (lego) builds this week.

In Grade 1 we have been looking at whether or not we could build a building out of marshmallows and spaghetti. (Spoiler: Some are still standing) .

In Grade 2 we have been focussing on the amazing properties of water and surface tension. We first made convex bubbles on coins (I think the record was 70 something drops) and then we used milk to see what happens with food colouring when you break the surface tension (Strangely enough an excellent visual example of how earthquakes affect the plates of our planets).

Finally in Grade 3-4 we concluded our design a frozen lunchbox challenge. The winner held the zooper dooper frozen for 5 hours and 45 minutes (with the support of cold packs). The second place was 3 hours and 30 minutes with only STEM supplied materials. The senior school  started their 2 week coding unit using code.org (which they can log into at home with parental permission - hit me up if you want some more parent information on the website) and we are hoping to finish our hot air balloon testing once we start having some cooler weather and some non fire restrictions days.

Thank you - Stephen Lytton.
