School News

Hello Wyndham Vale Primary School families,

My name is Emilie Wilson (students call me Ms Wilson). I am so excited to take on the role of Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader at WVPS! This role is a new initiative this year and is another way that we are ensuring that students’ wellbeing is prioritised at our school.

My role is to work with staff to promote positive mental health and wellbeing practices on a whole school level, building the capacity of teachers to support student mental health and wellbeing, to help coordinate referrals to external services and to advocate for and value student voices. I will also be completing training through Melbourne University to assist with all these areas. So far, I have been loving spending time in classrooms and getting to know staff and students.

Each fortnight I will be providing a link, idea or resource in the newsletter for you to try at home to help promote the mental health and wellbeing of your children.

I look forward to meeting you!

If you are the holder of a Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card you are entitled to receive funding called CSEF - Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund. You may have received it last year but if you have a sibling that started this year you will need to fill in a form for that child. If you have transferred from another school you will also need to fill in a for with us, orms are available from the office.

On February 22nd, WVPS proudly sent 14 swimmers to compete in the district championship at the Werribee outdoor pool. The day was nothing short of spectacular for our students, as they showcased their skills and dedication, earning ribbons across numerous events. We are thrilled to announce that WVPS secured the 2nd position out of the 13 participating schools—a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the hard work and talent of our team.

Each participant should feel an immense sense of pride for their contribution to this success. Their dedication and effort have truly paid off, and they have represented WVPS admirably.

Furthermore, we are delighted to share that 11 out of the 14 swimmers have advanced to the next divisional round scheduled for March 6th. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the following students and wish them the best of luck in the upcoming competition:

Xavier  - 4A

Dia  - 5C

Skyla - 5B

Ashley - 3C

Sharmila - 5A

Isaac - 5H

Blake - 5A

Ashton - 5A

Siya - 5H

Caleb - 6C

Your hard work, determination, and sportsmanship have been exemplary, and we have every confidence that you will continue to shine in the next round. Keep up the fantastic effort!

Our Amazing Year One students

The Year One students have had an impressive calm and settled start. They have been busy going over the school values and expectations. They have been able to give examples of how they demonstrate the school values of responsibility, honesty and respect.

In Reading, students have been learning to think aloud, visualise, retell and analyse texts. We have been looking at lots of Julia Donaldson texts to practise these comprehension skills. In Writing, students have been practising writing memory recounts making sure they include who, what and where. During Math learning, they have been exploring different ways to represent a number, collecting and recording data, and discussing duration. We have had some rich discussions around what is longer than a day.

In Wellbeing, students have been learning about self regulation and how to stay safe. We had our very first Incursion when Bravehearts came and helped us understand emotions and what to do if we feel unsafe.

Yard Duty and Supervision

Student safety at Wyndham Vale Primary School is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School gates are opened, and grounds are supervised at 8:20am until all students have entered classrooms at 8:45am.

After school: School grounds are supervised at the conclusion of the school day at 2:55pm until gates are closed at 3:10pm.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity). Parents/carers/guardians are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

Families are encouraged to contact the school office on 03 8754 0888 or refer to  Team Kids  for more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community or if you would like any further information about our student supervision arrangements.

For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy please contact the school office on 03 8754 0888. This policy includes Wyndham Vale Primary School’s student supervision arrangements across the school day, including before and after school.

All late comers need to go straight to Mrs Bebend to be signed in.

Please remember to label you child's uniform with their name. We have many items of clothing in lost property that we cannot return because there is no name on the items.

 Road Safety:

Wyndham Council have contacted us to inform us they will be patrolling our school area due to the large number of complaints they have received regarding dangerous driving, parking across drive ways and on the nature strips as well as the school crossings  not being used.

We are asking that you are vigilant at all times and role model for our students the following:

Cross at the school crossings

Do not park on the nature strip

Do not park across our neighbors driveways and block them

Do not double park to drop children off/pick them up

Do not speed, be aware of your speed and the speed limit during school hours

Pedestrians are to give way to vehicles at round abouts.

It is in everyone's best interest to keep the students safe and be respectful to those around                                          you and be a good role model for the students -

WVPS Staff - DO NOT cross the road without using the crossing
