In the past week, I had the privilege, and honour of speaking at two very special events on our School Calendar; the Year 12 and Year 6 Induction Assemblies. Doing so as Shelford's last Principal heightened the personal significance of each occasion.
I am thrilled to share with you the collective joy and sense of celebration evident at both assemblies, events that represent much-loved traditions and rites of passage at Shelford.
In my addresses, I expressed not only confidence in our students but also a deep sense of pride and admiration for their resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to excellence. As they embark on their respective journeys - the Year 12s transitioning into their final year of high school and the Year 6s commencing their last chapter in Junior School, I encouraged them to embrace the opportunities for growth, learning, and personal development that lie ahead.
I reminded them that they are in a community that cares, knows, and values each of them deeply for who and what they are. They have absolutely everything they need within themselves and the School to give themselves and each other the best opportunity to make the most of this year and to set goals that inspire and motivate, and to pursue these goals with unwavering determination.
Indeed, all of these messages are relevant to all Shelford students. It is pertinent to encourage all students to cherish the myriad opportunities available to them this year. I encourage all students to never lose sight of the values and attributes that define who they are. Integrity, respect, passion, creativity, compassion, perseverance—these are the qualities that will guide them not only through their final year at Shelford, but indeed throughout their lives.
To our wonderful Shelford families, I remain indebted to you for your ongoing support. Your commitment to your daughters' education, your encouragement, and your sacrifices have played an integral role in shaping the exceptional young people that we have the pleasure of working with each day. I know that you will continue to work in partnership with us throughout this year, as we enjoy and celebrate our School. I very much enjoyed seeing many of you at our recent Community Evening and I look forward to seeing you at upcoming events throughout the year.
