Around the School

PE News

Our Athletics Carnival is just around the corner! In anticipation for this exciting event, our students have been working hard in PE lessons. As part of the field events, our junior students have worked on long jump and thoroughly enjoyed running towards the pit in order to try and jump as far as they can. Their key tip was to remember to fall forward if they are off balance so that they do not shorten their distance. As well as long jump, the senior students have also worked on discus, shot put and triple jump. Triple jump is a more complex event that involves a particular technique where students need to do a hop, step and two foot jump into the sand pit. It has been a challenging yet enjoyable skill to master and the students have had lots of fun with it.

A reminder that the Athletics Carnival is Wednesday March 20 at Moorabbin Athletics Centre (Bricker Reserve) . If you would like to come and assist on the day, please email me - this may be all day or for an hour or so. In order to promote house spirit, we encourage students to wear their house colour to support their team. This could be in the form of a colourful wig, tutu, t-shirt or socks.

Year 5/6D Assembly Presentation, written by Nicole, Nesmah and Xavier

At our Week 5 assembly we were pleased to show our school a line dance called “The Cowboy Hussle”.  We think that dancing is good for the body because:

  • It gets your body moving and blood pumping.
  • It’s good for your physical health.
  • It’s also good for your mental health, and creates a happy feeling inside.

When you line dance you must be focused on what you and everyone else around you is doing. This is a great mental exercise, and is very similar to the concentration that you use in your brain when you are learning or performing a task that requires focus and practice. Exercising your brain in this way helps you think and perform tasks in the future.

When you present a dance as a group, you must also be open to cooperating together.

The song we danced to was Jolene by Miley Cyrus. We really enjoyed this, and we thank Ms Denise for teaching us.
