Wellbeing

New office space

It has been a very busy start to the year and there have been numerous exciting and interesting things planned for 2024. Regular updates on what is happening will be shared through the newsletter.

I have moved into my new office space in the new building. It is fantastic to have a dedicated space to meet with families, students, teachers, and other professionals who support what we are doing at Newlands.

Just a reminder that families can reach out to me individually through Sentral, the school email or via phone. (yes my new office has a phone)

 Resilience, Rights, and Respectful  Relationships

To support the implementation of the school strategic plan the wellbeing team will be meeting with members of the education departments, "Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships" team to discuss the provision of professional learning for staff and the implementation of strategies to support the growth of resilience in our students.

The first of these meetings will be next week. At this meeting, we will be mapping out our plan for the professional learning for all staff which will take place during our term 2 curriculum day on April 26th.

Secondhand Uniform

We will be having a secondhand uniform sale on Friday 15th March at 3:30 p.m.

T-shirts and shorts will be $2, windcheaters and jackets with school logo $5, and all other items $2. This will be a cash only sale and will happen on the oval steps of the old building, near the sensory playground.

If you have any donations, please leave them in the foyer of the old office area.

Please contact me if you are unable to find the articles of school uniform that you require for your child at this sale and need financial support to source them.

CSEF

CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps, and sporting activities.

If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seekers and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions, or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

The annual CSEF amount per student is:

*$150 for primary school students

HOW TO APPLY

New applicants should contact the school office to obtain a CSEF application form or download it from the website below.

If you applied for CSEF at your child's school last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.

You only need to complete an application form if any of the following changes have occurred:

  • new student enrolments; your child has started or changed schools this year.
  • changed family circumstances; such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing this year.

All foundation students who are eligible for CSEF funding will be supplied with a uniform pack in term 2.

Headlice

Over the past few weeks, we have received reports that headlice has made it back to our school.

Head lice do not transmit infectious diseases – they are transmitted by having head to head contact with someone who has head lice. You may be reassured to know that head lice are commonly found in places other than at (insert name of school). Head lice are common in school-aged children and are the most adaptable of creatures. They have survived living solely on humans for 10,000 years!!!!

What can you do?

We seek your cooperation in checking your child’s hair and in those instances where head lice or eggs are found, treating your child’s hair. Please visit www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au and search for “head lice (nits)” for advice on finding, treating, and preventing head lice.

When can my child return to school?

Health regulations require that where a child has head lice, that child should not return to school until the day after appropriate treatment has started. P
