Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

We were disappointed to have to postpone the HPS Family Picnic this week due to the predicted weather. We are very happy though to invite our community to come along next week, Thursday 29th February between 5.30 & 7.00pm to ensure we all get to connect and catch up. We hope you can make it and the weather will be much kinder to us.

I was lucky enough to have some Year 4 students come and visit me this week to share some learning and work they'd created in their class. They completed an activity called One Word and explained to me that the word they selected is something they value and will help them to focus on the important things to them. They'd heard from their teacher that I had spoken to HPS staff that my words for us this year were consistency and cohesion. Thanks to some Year 4s, I now have a visual reminder in my office!

Year 6 Presentation - Banyule Mayor

Yesterday our Year 6 cohort were lucky enough to have a visit from Mayor, Tom Melican. He spoke to students about his role on council and the important qualities for leaders to be able to demonstrate. Student's had composed some excellent questions to ask the Mayor, which he was able to answer through telling stories and giving examples.

School Review

Thank you to the parents who attended the focus group session on line as part of our School Review Wednesday evening. Your insights and input is greatly appreciated. We have a final day of the review process on Tuesday next week, where a new School Strategic Plan with 4 year goals will be determined.

Please make safety a priority

Very disappointingly we have seen, and had reported, some extremely unsafe and illegal practices occurring at drop off and pick up times.

Concerning behaviours include:

  • parking across residential driveways
  • not parking in line with directions on signage
  • U-Turning in front of the school crossing
  • children exiting vehicles whilst car is stopped at school crossing
  • children exiting vehicles whilst car is stopped on road beside parked cars

For all our children's sake, please take care and demonstrate consideration and respect when driving around our school. We are role models to our children and they learn from our behaviours and values. Be sure to set the best example.
