Specialist Subjects 

We have had a busy 2 weeks in the Art room.

The Prep-2 have been investigating shape as one of the elements of art. Famous artist Paul Klee used geometric shapes in his artworks and we have been inspired to do the same. Artwork in progress!

The 3/4s have been learning about the First Fleet and are creating paintings to depict this historical event. Paper was painted in green and blue tones and when dry, torn to create waves. The students are working on creating a collage of the ships on their way to Australia.

Students in 5/6 have been learning about Albert Namatjira and his famous ghost gum watercolour paintings. They were working with watercolour paints and various techniques such as wet on wet, blot, adding salt, dry brush and to create their own scene.

To celebrate Easter, 5/6 students also decorated biscuits... they are very creative!

In music, we have been busy playing instruments, non-tuned percussion and tuned instruments to keep a steady beat and play simple rhythms.   Senior students have had a crash course in how to play the recorder... after just 3 lessons they played a Hot Cross Bun Rap at our final assembly! Well done, everyone!!

In Science...

The P/1/2s have been learning about Mini beasts that we find in our gardens and they all planted some beans in cotton wool and water and then watched them start to grow roots and shoots.

The 3/4s have worked really hard in the SAKG garden learning about planting, weeding, mulching and composting and the importance of watering the  new seeds and seedlings.

 Learning to use a wheelbarrow had its ups and downs but all have gained their wheelbarrow license!

The 5/6s completed a STEM challenge - 100 Days of Pop Sticks. Each team had to build the strongest bridge using only 100 pop sticks, sticky tape, scissors and elastic bands. A real challenge for some groups but they all managed to complete something. The winning team was Alex, Jet, Will and Ilikana with a winning weight of 19kg!
