Prep to Grade 2:
Weeks 8 and 9
Prep to Grade 2:
Weeks 8 and 9
What an exciting week we had in the Junior module last week!
We went on our walking excursion to the Wheelers Hill Shopping Centre to visit Woolworths and the Post Office.
We helped Mrs Dennehy do the SAKG shopping by finding the ingredients needed for the recipes. We then went to the Post Office where Liz explained the process the mail goes through to get to its destination. We posted a letter to ourselves to see how long it would take to reach us at school. It arrived back to school on Wednesday... just 2 days!
We had our snack of free fruit and some donuts Mrs Beard bought from Woolies at the playground in Columbia Park. We also discovered the remains of one of the original houses built in Wheelers Hill, the 2 pillars and front steps and brick wall outline still visible in Columbia Park.
A big thank you to our parent volunteers who joined us on our walk.
We were also extremely lucky to receive a visit on Wednesday from Sergeant Jack, and Senior Constable Paul from Victoria Police. The Prep-2 students were delighted to ask the officers all the questions they could think of and learnt important information about the role of the police in keeping our community safe.
The students were able to see all of the elements of the police uniform including the equipment that they carry and were able to try on some (very big) jackets and hats.
Our junior cohort also loved seeing the police shields, public order response car and getting to see the lights flash and hear the sirens blare!
Colour Fun Run
The colour fun run was a fantastic way to round out the final full week of term one. Everyone had a fabulous time and it was amazing to see the whole school community come together to produce this fun-filled event.
Thank you to everyone that helped out or came to watch, we appreciate you!
In literacy, our prep students have learnt two new sounds /p/ and /t/ and discussed some of the things that start with letters P and T. We made pink and purple paper planes to fly - look at them go!
In Literacy, our grade 1s have been learning three new graphemes to represent the 'long i' sound: 'igh' (lightning), '-y' (spy), and 'ie' (pie), and their first grapheme to represent the long o sound: 'oa' (goat).
Our grade 2s have been revising 'long e': 'e-e' (delete) and 'e' (me), and 'long o': o-e (nose) and oe (toe).
We welcome Mrs Catherine Cummerford in P/1A while Mrs Beard is on study leave for 4 weeks and Mrs Dennehy is on 2 weeks Long Service Leave at the beginning of Term 2. Our students are in good hands!
We hope you all enjoy a wonderful break filled with family and fun.
We look forward to seeing you back next term.
Mrs Beard, Mrs Dennehy, Miss West and Mrs Cummerford.
