2024 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge

B. Luxa and J. Le

Once again, our school will be participating in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge.

The challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for pleasure while exposing them to quality literature. It is not a competition, but a challenge for each student to read more often, and to read more widely. The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW school students.

Students must read from a prescribed list. K-2 may have the books read to them. PRC books are located on special shelves in our library, which makes them easy to locate. Inside the cover of each book, is a code, which should be entered online at https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

Parents and caregivers can read the privacy information on the PRC website:

https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/privacy.html

In order to successfully complete the challenge students must read books from the 2024 PRC Lists. All books must be read and entered by the 23rd August 2024.

Years K-2 - read 30 books                   Years 3-6 - read 20 books

Parents should be aware that it is their responsibility to ensure that reading records are correctly entered online, using the student’s DoE username and password. Teacher librarians are unable to enter reading records online, due to the large number of students participating. If you do not have internet access, students can enter their reading records online in the library at lunchtime. Information regarding student usernames and passwords can be provided by the class teacher or the Teacher Librarians.

If interested, please sign and return the permission slip to the class teacher by Friday, 29th March, 2024.

How to Record Books for NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge 2024

Your child can record the books that they read in a paper reading log and it must be entered online. This is available from the school library, or can be downloaded from the PRC website.

The website address is: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

Students enter their DoE username and password. The password is the child’s name with a full stop on the middle (no spaces). Sometimes there is a number at the end e.g. sarah.jones27. Students use this same username and password each time they logon to a computer at school.
