Principal's Report

Last Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent, each of our LM classes held an Ash Wednesday Liturgy and I was fortunate to join the Kildare Chisholm Liturgy. Lent is a time of reflection, a time to think about what we can do and be for others.  At St Joseph’s we are called to be kind. As we walk through Lent in preparation for celebrating Easter, may we think before we speak, may we pause before we move to anger, may we listen before we raise our voices and may we be kind to all we encounter in both word and action.

Last week we also celebrated our Kildare Campus swimming carnival. It was a great day and a wonderful opportunity for our students to represent their Houses with pride, enthusiasm and commitment. This Friday our senior students will participate in our Brigidine Campus swimming carnival and we trust this will also be another day of fun and friendly competition at the pool.

Our Year 12 students have just returned from their Retreat where they engaged in some team building and formation activities. I commend the students on their behaviour and their positive attitude and to the staff for committing additional time to our students outside of traditional hours. The College can only provide these experiences because our staff are prepared to spend time away from their own families to plan and prepare these programs for our students.

I am looking forward to attending our Year 7 and 8 Parent Welcome Evening on Thursday. We are fortunate to have such quality guest speakers willing to attend in support of our College. These evenings provide opportunities to connect with other families, but also to increase engagement with our staff. Working in partnership with families is a key factor in student success at school and something we try hard to achieve here at St Joseph's College.

In a couple of weeks our Year 7 students will attend their first camp. This event is one of the highlights of the year for our students and our teachers are working hard behind the scenes to ensure it will be a rewarding experience for them. I look forward to hearing all the stories when they return!

I would like to remind families that we now have direct telephone numbers to a series of key areas and personnel in the College. This enables families and members of the community to contact the campus or the staff member they wish to speak with directly. Each area also has a messaging service.
