Year 1 

Writing Procedure

The Year 1 students have recently transitioned from writing Information Reports to Procedural writing. They've already tackled "How to make a Fruit Kebab" and "How to Decorate a Cookie," creating procedures for both.  Students and teachers worked together to determine the steps for each activity, and then students wrote their own procedures. Each student included a title, materials or ingredients, and step-by-step instructions.   

We focused on the 'Word Choice' writing trait, carefully selecting verbs to explain each step. For example, we discussed verbs like squeeze, place, and mix. We also explored different adverbs, such as gently and carefully. Students enjoyed making each recipe, and we're excited to continue with hands-on activities like "How to make Bubble Mixture" in the future.
