Burwood East Primary School Writing Club
At Burwood East Primary School, our Writing Club meets twice a week, offering opportunities for students across different year levels:
- Junior Writing Club: Thursdays at lunchtime for students in Foundation to Year 2 in 2E.
- Senior Writing Club: Fridays at recess for students in Year 3 to Year 6 in 2E.
What Happens in Writing Club?
Each session of Writing Club focuses on a specific aspect of writing, guided by student input. Students also have the freedom to work on their own writing projects and receive feedback to help them improve.
Recent Activities:
- In the Junior Writing Club, we have been focusing on creating interesting characters and settings.
- In the Senior Writing Club, students have been exploring poetry, including crafting their own limericks.
Hear what the students have to say and see some of their work from the club!

What is a limerick?
A limerick follows a AABBA rhyming pattern, which means the first, second- and fifth-lines rhyme and the third- and fourth-line rhyme. They usually tell a story that is either silly or funny.
Ants - by Alieshia 4H
Ants are small,
Sometimes they crawl on balls,
They work as a team,
never mean,
And live on street side stalls.
Mountains - by Carys 4H
The mountains are tall,
Quiet, but not like the mall,
Whispering animals,
Some like our mammals,
Mountain animals are sometimes small.
Spring – by Paige 4S
The flowers are blooming
The people are grooming
The bees are buzzing
The trees are fuzzing
The dogs are zooming
The Fox - Rosie 4S
There once was a fox,
Who lived in a box,
On one Sunday,
He went out to play,
And got CHICKEN POX!
Autumn by Violet 4S
Little leaves,
Blow through the trees,
Brown, red and yellow,
Go outside or practise your cello,
Leaves fall from the trees.
