Digital Technology in Music
Digital Technology in Music
This term in Performing Arts we are looking at Game Changers, Game Makers and Innovators. If we look more closely in the world of film score music and digital technology, Han Zimmer, a German movie film composer and music producer, stands out as one of the best. Many of us have heard Zimmer’s music in movie soundtracks such as: The Lion King, Dune, Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator and many more. What Hans Zimmer does so well is use cutting edge digital tools and techniques to craft distinctive soundscapes. He regularly uses traditional orchestral instruments with electronic sounds putting them together to create a unique texture and dynamic. This was evident in the movie Dune where the camera pans over the desert and the music of Zimmer, the orchestra and electronic sound, paints an emotive and stirring picture.
Another music composer leading the way as a game changer is John Williams.
This film music composer is known for writing music scores for full orchestra. This is certainly evident in his orchestral music score for Star Wars. John used digital recording techniques to ensure high fidelity and clarity in the recording of these orchestra music scores.
