Year 1 Maths

The Year 1 students have been working hard on their Maths skills, particularly focusing on skip counting as a key part of their maths daily warm-up. Skip counting not only helps to build a strong foundation in number sequences, but it also enhances students’ ability to identify patterns and relationships between numbers. The students have been engaged during these sessions, trying to work on their speed and accuracy, as they count forwards from 0 to 100 by 2s and 5s, and backwards from 100 to 0 by 5s. This practice is essential in developing their number fluency and preparing them for future mathematical concepts.

In addition to skip counting, the Year 1s have been exploring measurement. They are learning to measure objects using both formal and informal units. Through hands-on activities, the students have been measuring items in their environment with standard units like rulers and measuring tapes, as well as informal units such as paper clips, blocks, and even their own hands and feet! They also had fun with some spheros where they measured the distance or length their sphero travelled from one point to another. These activities have provided them with a practical understanding of measurement concepts, helping them understand the importance of accuracy and consistency in their measurements.
