Principal Report

Dear Families,

We have had a wonderful few weeks here at school enjoying lots of fantastic opportunities across the school.

We have celebrated literacy and numeracy week, mostly literacy but we can improve in this space next year. We have enjoyed the book parade, author visits, premier's readers challenge all while attending swimming.

Just before this, we had a visit to Quantum for all of the grade 1 and 2 students. This was completely free for all students thanks to the support Mr Taylor shares with them each year for their conference. Thanks Mr Taylor.

The grade 56 students have enjoyed Hoop Time. This year their classroom teachers not only coached and attended, they also organised the event. Thank you grade 56.

We had all classes and students attend swimming lessons over two weeks. This is a huge task to organise. A special thank you to Mrs Layton for helping create a seamless two weeks, as well as all the staff who are attend the pool to supervise. It is appreciated.

The book parade this year was hosted by Miss Wright and Miss Jones who have also been encouraging our students to read as part of the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC). Thank you for the encouragement and the dress ups.

The Specialist Night is our Open Night. It was a little different as we like our Open Night to be for the families that are here. A celebration of all the great things we do. This year it was time to celebrate the Specialist subjects Visual Arts, Global Arts, Physical Education and Design and Digital Technology. The team offered lots of activities for our students at the school to participate in with their parents and carers. A big thank of Miss Chambers, Mr Caddy, Mrs Layton and Mr Taylor from that team, as well as a thank you to Mrs Boyle, Mrs Harrison and Mrs Munnecke for their help and support on the night.  We also ran the book fair during the day and after school. Ms Plunkett stepped in to support and we would like to say thank you for the help.

The author visits this year had Rachel Hyland speaking to Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2. Rachel shared her book 'It Can't Get Any More Broken'

Rachel is also taking one of the ideas from grade 2 and has offered to write a book for them including all of their names. Watch this space.

At grade 34 we had Lauren Caceres who read her much loved Spanish children's book 'Nene Va De Compras'. A great fit with our Global Arts program.

And for the grade 34 and 56 a very well-known author attended, Morris Glieitzman. Morris has written numerous books for children including the Once series. His latest book is 'Tweet'.

Mrs Munnecke and Mrs Murcott organised the author visits. Thank you.

P&F Father's Day stall was held recently with a range of gifts for those special people in children's lives. A special thank you Tara Hickman and the many parents who participated and helped children pick out something nice from the stall. We are working to save for more play equipment for students.

Recently we have had some parent/carers overtaking in the kiss and go area. This may be caused by a little impatience, and sometimes the slow process of children leaving cars.

Some tips for a better experience:

  1. We never overtake a car. We do not know if a child is going to jump out on the right side of the vehicle.
  2. If children can leave the car on the passenger side, it is safer.
  3. If children can have their bags ready to go on the laps, this speeds up the process.
  4. If children need help getting out with their bags from the rear, then please park in the street and let them get out safely. We want the system to be quick to avoid holding the next cars up.
  5. Lastly, please go all the way down to the end of the lane if its open. Children can walk 20 meters to the entrance, you should see how they move at play time!

Hats:

Term 4 is nearly here, as is Spring! The UV is rising with today a 23C day, even though it is cloudy.

Week 9 and 10 of this term we will be encouraging children to bring their hats to school and to start wearing them. This will help get us all ready for term 4. Sunscreen needs to be applied at home in the mornings. Top ups can happen during the day. Sunscreen is available at the main and Boorai building entrances.

Kind Regards,

Craig Bradley
