Principal's Report

St Finbar's Arts Festival

There is only one week to go until our St Finbar's Arts Festival. This is one of our major community events this year and promises to be a great afternoon. The students have been working on their art pieces all year, and we can't wait to see them displayed en masse.

The Art Show will be held from 3:30pm until 6pm in the school hall.

Some of the highlights will include:

  • performances from the choir
  • sausage sizzle run by the P & F
  • roving music performances by students
  • auction of art works
  • art activities
  • over the counter sales from Healthy Hut
  • and of course viewing of the amazing art works

Thank you in advance to Ms Lisa Douglas who has been working towards this Arts Festival all year, supported by Mrs Susan Williams.

National Science Week Open Morning

Don't forget that you are all invited to visit our classrooms after assembly tomorrow.  The students are about halfway through their Science unit for this term, and are keen to show off the work that they have been doing and share their learnings.

It was the Prep, Year 1 and Year 2s turn for a Science incursion this week, exploring concepts such as push and pull, friction and gravity.  Students were also invited to participate in some lunchtime science activities run by our Year 6 leaders.

Even the staff got to join in the fun with a Science themed morning tea. Thank you to Mr Mills and Andrea for organising this for everyone.

Hoop Time Congratulations

A huge well done to our 34 Year 5 & 6 students who took part in Hoop Time last week. It was very exciting to get the news that the All Stars Boys' Team had won their grand final, closely followed by the news that All Star Girls' Team had also won their grand final. Please see the Sports page for more results, photos and a rundown of the day by Mrs Thompson.

2025 returning students

We are currently seeking confirmation from families in regards to the 2025 enrolment status for their children.  If you haven't already, please complete the  Operoo request by Friday August 23rd.  We have families on our waiting lists for 2025 and we would like to let them know of availability of places as soon as we can.

Swimming Program - Weeks 7 & 8

Our school Swimming Program is fast approaching, thank you to all the families who have responded to the Operoo request for this. Please see the timetable for swimming below.

At St. Finbar’s we firmly believe that an intensive swimming and water safety program has a lot to offer our children in relation to water awareness, swimming skill development, water safety and self-confidence in and around water.  As it is a part of the Victorian Curriculum, it is an expectation that all children participate in the program.  If your child cannot participate, please communicate with your classroom teacher as soon as possible. Students who do not take part in swimming lessons will remain at school and will be supervised in another classroom for the time their classmates are off-site.

Parents are more than welcome to attend the swimming lessons, though are required to sit in the grandstand area of the pool and are not allowed to enter the pool deck at any time.

Request from Anna

We have a request from Anna, as she is short staffed at the moment.  If anybody is available to help out in the Healthy Hut on the next four Fridays, it would be very much appreciated. Please speak to the office if you are interested.

Take care and God bless.

Michelle Hill,

Principal
