Celebrating Book Week
Such is our love of reading, literature and creativity at SKiPPS that we have (almost) made Book Week 2024 into Book Month 2024.
We are thrilled to celebrate with an array of exciting events that highlight the joy and magic of reading! This year's theme, "Reading is Magic," has inspired a series of engaging activities for our students, staff, and families.
To kick off our Book Week celebrations, we welcomed Meerkat Productions to SKiPPS. Their captivating performances of Being Jimmy Baxter and Timeless brought these beloved and familiar stories to life. The students enjoyed the dramatic interpretations, which entertained and also sparked discussions about the books’ themes and characters.
We were delighted to host two distinguished authors who shared their passion for storytelling with our students. Jane Godwin, renowned for her books such as The Family Tree and Every Little Thing, captivated our young readers with her engaging tales. Anna Fienberg, author of the Tashi series and The Red Wind, also visited, enchanting our students with her imaginative stories and insights into the world of writing.
As part of our celebration, our students have been actively involved in voting for their favourite books from the CBCA Children’s Book of the Year shortlist. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and thoughtful discussions about the nominees. The votes are in, and we can’t wait to reveal the results!
The highlight of our Book Week festivities will be the annual Book Week Dress-Up Parade on Friday. We invite all students, staff, and parents to come dressed as their favourite children’s book character. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to showcase their creativity and immerse themselves in the magic of reading.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this Book Week a memorable experience. Your support and participation help foster a lifelong love of reading in our children. We look forward to celebrating with you all and continuing to inspire our young readers!
