Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

Athletics - Term 3, Stage 3

The sun has been shining on the Junior School Athletics Squad this season. In stark contrast to the Winter season, the boys involved in Athletics have had to deal with unseasonally warm weather and wind. This has not diminished their performances though. In the past week, the Junior School Athletics Team competed in the IPSHA Athletics Carnival. This carnival serves as an opportunity for boys to be selected for higher representative opportunities. Running, jumping and throwing against the best schools in Sydney, the St Patrick’s College athletes were very competitive. The boys were a force to the reckoned with in all their heats, bringing home a number of ribbons on the day. The College is fortunate to have three students selected to represent IPSHA on Friday 6 September, across 4 disciplines. Congratulations to the following boys:

  • Xavier Ziino – Junior 200m (qualified 4th)
  • Jaidyn Shehadie – Junior Discus (qualified 5th)
  • Malietau Davis – 11Yrs Discus (qualified 1st) and 11Yrs Shot Put (qualified 1st).

I know you will join me in congratulating the boys on their selections and wish them all the best for their upcoming carnival. We look forward to hearing about your experiences.

While the Winter season has come to an end, the representative Football season continues. Last week Christian Boutros represented CIS in the PSSA Football competition. It was a challenging competition and unfortunately, CIS did not make the final. However, the talents of Christian did not go unnoticed, and he has been selected to play in the NSW side. He will head to play in the national competition later this year. Congratulations Christian on your selection into the NSW Team.

With the warmer weather seemingly here to stay, boys are reminded that they need to be wearing their black sport caps at Recess, Lunch and at PE lessons. They should also be taking a full drink bottle of water with them. Each class has a pump bottle of sunscreen, and I would encourage all boys to make use of this prior to going out to the playgrounds at meal breaks.

Some advanced notice of Junior School sport photos to be held on Tuesday 17 September. Boys will be required to bring the playing uniform for all the College representative sports they have participated this year, for both the Summer and Winter seasons. Boys will change at school into their playing uniform for each photo. Please note that for winter sports, boots are to be worn, however mouthguards, shinpads and headgear are not required. Boys involved in Squads (Swimming, Cross-country and Athletics) will wear their black Supporter’s shirt for the photo.

In addition to these photos, all boys that have represented IPSHA, CIS and/or NSW will have their photos taken for these representative teams. Boys should wear their representative singlet, shirt or jersey for these photos. Boys in AFL are reminded that, after their AFL photo, they are to return their guernsey and bring their Supporter’s polo to the photo session to change into.

A timetable for photos will be placed in each of the Junior School classrooms shortly. Information on how to purchase the photos will be shared in the Especean soon.
