This week the teachers and students focused on the value of RESPECT “Be ready for learning”. This was to help students settle back into school for term 4. The students practiced strategies to help regulate themselves if they are not ready for learning. Teachers also spoke to the students about routines for getting ready to go swimming and expected behavior on the bus and at the pool.
Twilight Market
The countdown is on until our annual Twilight Market and biannual Art show which will be held this year on Thursday 7th November from 5 to 8pm. Be sure to tell your family and friends. We will have a variety of stalls including clothing, homewares, jewellery, health and beauty, toys, hand made crafts and much more. There will be a variety of food trucks, drinks and coffee and dessert options for sale on the evening. ONLY 4 WEEKS TO GO!!!!!
Mystery bottles/jars/prize
The Specialist teachers will be having a mystery bottle/jar/bag stall at the market. The students will be able to come dressed in casual clothes to school next Friday 18th October in exchange for bringing an item to donate to our mystery prize stall. Whatever you donate needs to be brand new in packaging. It can be a bottle or jar already filled (e.g. sauce, jam, lollies, bath salts, bubble bath, wine etc). Or you can donate a brand new gift that could be wrapped up such as stationary, lolly bags, hair accessories, stickers etc.
Student Representative Council Term 4
If I was Prime Minister
We had our first SRC meeting with the new term 4 chosen representatives. We read a book together called “If I was Prime Minister” by Beck and Robin Feiner. The students were asked to share with the group what their aspirations were and if they were the Prime Minister of Australia what would they want to do to make Australia a better place. Here’s what some of the children had to say.
If I was Prime Minister I would….
Layla: Make more houses for homeless people
Havannah: Make expensive things cheaper so everyone could have nice things.
Odin: I would build water powered engines for cars. It is cost effective and good for the environment.
Sean: I would care for the land. Plant more trees.
Prue: Help save endangered animals
Isabella: Look after injured wildlife.
Ariana: Make more playgrounds for kids.
The children have been asked to come back with ideas next week for different rewards for winning the PBL raffle. We also looked at Child safe standard 1 which is about creating culturally safe environments. The children were asked to think about ways to get rid of racism at school or unkind comments. I look forward to hearing the SRC’s ideas this term.
The term 4 SRC reps will be presented with their SRC badges at a special assembly at Morning gathering on Monday morning in the hall first thing in the morning. All parents are most welcome to attend in the school hall on Monday morning to join us for a whole school morning gathering and presentation of the badges to the new SRC representatives.
