FIRST RESPONDER - SUPERHERO DAY
Year 3 Fire Fighters Incursion
Kylie Stone, Kate Read, Amy Gatchell and Deb Richardson
Last week, the Year 3 students were lucky enough to have some firefighters from Canning Vale Fire and Rescue come to teach us all about fire safety. We learnt about what to do if there is a fire in our homes. We were also given some homework! We needed to learn our street address (and closest intersecting road), find two ways to get out of our house with our eyes closed and also check that our parents have changed the smoke detector batteries. Did you know that the national day to change your smoke detector batteries is the 1st of April?
The firefighters also showed us some of the equipment that they use. We were even lucky enough to see one of the firefighters dressed in his safety gear. It was amazing looking at all of the things they wear to keep them safe.
After the safety talk, we all ventured outside to look at their amazing vehicles. We were shown all of the equipment that is stored in the Fire Engine and were amazed that it all stays still while they drive. The thermal imaging camera was a real highlight!
After looking at the big Fire Engine, we went to the smaller support vehicle and were able to fire the hose and knock over a safety cone! It was so much fun!
We had the best time!
