CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to draft logically sequenced paragraphs for an explanation text. 

VOCABULARY

Sequenced: Breaking down information and putting it into logical order.   

Paragraph: Groups of sentences that share a common idea. 

Explanation Text: A nonfiction text that explains how or why something works. 

Cause and Effect Language: Language that is used to describe when a certain event (cause) makes another event happen (effect).

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Think of a topic to write an explanation topic about such as: 

• How do volcanoes erupt?
• How do bees make honey? 
• How does the recycling process work?

Practise writing logically sequenced paragraphs that explain the process. You might like to have a go at using cause and effect language to help explain the process.
