Foundation / Year 1

Last week we celebrated the end of the Olympics with our very own Potato Olympics. Each student was allocated a country who they made the flag to represent. Each country then had to make their own athlete that would compete in the Potato Olympics. The athletes competed in dancing, gymnastics, weightlifting, diving & shot put. Countries were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals for where they were placed in each event.

Our focus with Inquiry this term is Friendship & Fairness. Students have been discussing rules that we have at school, home and in the community and the reason for the rules (eg: no swinging on the chairs so we stay safe and don’t fall). Students have also been practicing how we can be fair and kind to others while playing (eg: keeping the noise quiet for people who don’t like loud noises and as not to disturb the class next door).

Year 2

Last week was Wellness Week and we were very lucky to welcome Steph and NED from ‘The NED Shows’. Steph and Ned helped us to understand how our brain works, how we can achieve our potential, embrace challenges, persist when we have setbacks and acknowledge that mistakes are a necessary step to grow and master useful skills. We also learnt NED stands for; Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best. We also enjoyed the other activities throughout the week - trivia Thursday and feel good Friday where students will have the opportunity to write a positive message on a sticky note, to a secret student to fill their bucket up.

This week was National Science Week and we were very fortunate to have Kathy and Alex from Twisted Science visit our school. Kathy and Alex performed lots of experiments for us and we learnt lots about liquids, solids, air, gravity and carbon dioxide. We had lots of fun learning from them.

Year 3/4

Maths

The 3/4 units have been working hard developing their understanding of multiplication and that multiplication is about ‘how many’ groups and ‘how much’ in each group, and the array is a powerful representation of the ‘how many’ groups and ‘how much in each group’.  We have had lots of exploring using lots of materials and sharing our ideas about our learning.

Literacy

Our phonics focus is on the different ways we can represent the /ay/ phoneme.

We have explored the many ways the /ay/ phoneme(sound) /grapheme spelling choice is represented in many words with our understanding that:

a - is usually at the beginning and middle of words and is seen at the end of an open syllable,

a-e - indicates a long vowel,

ay - may be used at the end of the first syllable,

ai - is never used at the end of an English word.

Here are our brainstorm ideas

stable

Year 5/6

Literacy

The Year 5/6 students have been working diligently to complete and publish their Narrative Poems. It’s been a pleasure to see them incorporate various literary poetry techniques into their work. In addition to writing their poems, students also had the opportunity to present their finished pieces using Canva, allowing them to showcase their creativity and digital skills. The combination of poetry and design has resulted in some impressive work, and it's wonderful to see how much pride they have taken in their pieces.

Maths

The Olympics may be over, but the excitement continues for our Year 5/6 students! They've been putting their measurement skills to the test by tackling worded problems in areas such as perimeter, area, time and volume. Through carefully recording their thinking in their maths books and sharing their work on Google Slides, they’ve achieved success and demonstrated a good grasp of these important concepts.

Miss Eade’s class has been exploring the concept of area by measuring various spaces around our school. With the arrival of nicer weather, we’re looking forward to taking our learning outdoors and discovering even more in our beautiful surroundings.

Inquiry - Science Week

During Science Week, our students' curiosity was sparked as they explored the everyday wonders we often take for granted. Kathy and Alex from Twisted Science led an engaging one-hour session, where the students delved into different elements of science and conducted hands-on experiments. The children's enthusiasm was matched by their exceptional behaviour throughout the experience!
