Hi Everyone,
It is hard to believe we are approaching the end of Term 3 already. We have enjoyed some great weather for the most part this term which has allowed students to engage in activities during yard times. This past week was a bit of a shock with severe weather conditions, I hope all our families got through without too much damage, and that power and internet was restored quickly for those that lost it.
Term 3 has been very busy with more school sports going out, Tech School visits, Year 9 Camp, Year 10 course counselling and the launch of the Aspiring Athletes Program just to list a few. The campus is feeling really settled at the moment which is great for this time of year. Whilst it is nearing the school holiday break, it is important to focus on the teaching and learning program that remains our priority for the remaining two weeks of school.
This week, students started their Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) for all core classes. These will be finalised by the end of next week and then students will receive feedback on ways to improve their outcomes.
On the students' last day for term 3, Miss Barfoot and a team of staff have put a lot of energy into organising our History Day. The day will include a range of activities, a medieval-themed dress-up, a school assembly, and a big feast that will be shared by staff and students. We hope to see as many students engage as possible.
Parent, Teacher, Student conversations will take place on Thursday 19th (3:30 – 7:00pm) and Friday 20th (10:00am to 1:00pm). Compass notification will come out when you are able to jump on and book your appointments online. These conversations are a great way to connect with your child’s teachers and gather feedback on how they are going with their learning as well as the way in which they engage within a subject and classroom and what they could do to make improvements. We really encourage students to attend and take part in these conversations.
Mr White has been busy organising the annual Thinking Championships that our Year 7 students engage in each year. This will be held in the last week and a half of term. Students join with others to compete in teams, solving problems and demonstrating their learning in a way that is not traditional. It is one of the highlights of the Year 7 program.
This term we kicked off our Aspiring Athletes program at both Junior campuses. This has been a huge success and one that has the potential to really support student athletes in developing lifelong training habits that would benefit them not only in their sporting ambitions but also in leading a long and healthy life. Students have engaged in a Nutrition session that was ran by a Qualified Sports Nutritionist, Strength and Conditioning sessions, Lunch time fitness sessions and there are exciting things happening over the remainder of the year.
Congratulations to Olivia F, Alex F, Sara M, Logan R, Brayden W and Murray W for being accepted to the Don Valley School of Leadership in Term 4. This program allows students to live onsite at the school to undertake an 8-week program aimed at developing their leadership skills, amongst other personal qualities, and work collaboratively with other year 9 students from a number of high schools across Victoria. They will get to continue their learning in this unique environment while also participating in many adventure activities and working together to develop a community learning project that will benefit the entire school community. I can’t wait to see what they come up with and the growth they will undoubtedly show through participating in this program.
I would like to wish our entire community a safe and happy term break when it arrives. Thanks for your ongoing support of our campus
